Using Your Hot Tub to Stay in Shape

 In Hot Tub Blog

While many people invest in hot tubs for relaxation purposes, they also offer you many opportunities to stay in shape. Exercising in your hot tub is ideal for people with a limited range of motion, those who are recovering from injuries, and people who suffer from arthritis or chronic pain.

Below you’ll learn several ways to use your hot tub to stay in shape while keeping your joints healthy.

Shoulder Rolls

Simply soaking in your hot tub will alleviate stress, but adding a few useful stretches to your soak can help you relax even further. A good place to start your exercise routine is with a few simple shoulder rolls, since shoulders are a place where many of us hold a lot of our stress. Slowly roll your shoulders forward, hold the position for five seconds, and then roll them backwards. Do this five times.

Bicycle Kicks

Bicycle kicks are a great way to keep your legs in shape without hurting your joints. Sit on the edge of your seat while holding on to the edge of the spa. Pull your legs up toward you and pedal like you’re riding a bike. Start with 30 seconds and work your way up to one minute or more.

Torso Rotations

To keep your abdominal muscles strong and toned, kneel on the bottom of the hot tub with a straight back. With your hands on your hips, tighten your abdominal muscles and rotate from one side to the other. This will work the sides of your abs, also known as your oblique muscles. Try to complete a full and steady range of motion.

Thigh Presses

A terrific way to keep your inner thighs strong is by doing thigh presses. Sit on a seat in the hot tub and push your knees together. Use your hands to apply resistance to your knees while opening and closing your legs to work out your inner and outer thigh muscles. Do three sets.

Deep Breathing

Deep breathing is one of the best ways to help you relax and give you energy. While sitting in your hot tub, take a deep breath in until your lungs are full and hold it for five seconds. Then release all of the air slowly. Do this for several sets until you feel relaxed.

Before you start any exercise routine, make sure you check with your doctor. If you feel any discomfort while doing these exercises, stop right away.
